| Question: | Does Envivio have a MPEG4 decoder plugin? | |
| Answer: | Yes, here are the quick setup steps:
|
|
| Question: | Does Envivio have a FAQ? | |
| Answer: | Download (34.50 KB) | |
| Question: | Is there any file security? Can someone just right-click and download the file from the server? | |
| Answer: | It's a security feature in the sense that the movie folders are not served with the
http protocol but only rtsp (or e-rtsp). 4Sight also includes the possibility to
protect the folders by password which limits the access with the rtsp protocol too.
However, note that the dialog boxes necessary to enter the credentials are not
implemented with QuickTime. So, a password-protected folder won't be accessible for
users using QuickTime even if s/he knows the credentials. Especially if you deal with
Mac Users, you unfortunately will have to avoid this method. |
|
| Question: | Can you stream video but not download? | |
| Answer: | Yes, 4Sight streams the video but does not permit download. The 4Sight server (which
is also on the Mindshare) does not allow for file transfer via the http protocol.
This is what would be needed to download the file. 4Sight also includes the
possibility to protect the folders by password which limits the access with the rtsp
protocol too. Note password protection blocks consumer level MP4 players that don't
have a provision for username and password. |
|
| Question: | Is there an Envivio TV Flash Plugin? | |
| Answer: | No. Currently the Flash player does not have the extensibility required for decoding
multi-object MPEG-4 files. Envivio does offer a Java player for embeding into HTML. |
|
| Question: | Can you record at HI-Res and stream at different qualities at the same time. For example: some people choke at hi res and the CEO has a big pipe and wants good quality? | |
| Answer: | Envivio encoder products do not feature multi-bit-rate encoding. Keep in mind, this
is not a product like Real or QuickTime, this is a multi-cast product. This product
was built around the foundation that the benefits of multicasting will far-out-weigh
"multi-rating". |
|
| Question: | Does the streaming from the server also have different Res or is that a function of the player, same issue? | |
| Answer: | Yes, Envivio takes advantage of all the benefits/tools in the MPEG4 format to deliver
as much of the correct product to the view as possible with their network connection. |
|
| Question: | Have you done any integration with Blackboard, Anystream or other Asset Management systems? If not, is there another tool for meta data extraction, thumbnail creation, time stamping, closed caption, search ability, asset management, repurposed bit rate, etc. that you do work with? | |
| Answer: | The XML API interface should provide all required "hooks" to integrate with any
system that supports XML integtration. Envivio has tested their products with various
systems. |
|
| Question: | Also, for those University type installations where integrity is part of the culture, how do you get to a licensing cost for an unknown number of players? | |
| Answer: | Typically the organization will plan to use the embeded HTML players and purchase the
number of licences to support server operation at maximum usage. |
|
| Question: | Does Envivio still integrate with other Server types, Darwin, MS, Helix? | |
| Answer: | No. The other products like Darwin support MPEG-4, but it doesn't support (or support
differently) MPEG-4 Systems, which is a level in the MPEG-4 specification which
includes the interactive part of MPEG-4 (the layer called BIFS). |
|
| Question: | (See above) If so, is it wrapped in the native MIME, or sit with it's own MIME? Or, does it now need to be an Envivio server? | |
| Answer: | To stream, it needs an Envivio server. But the file can be played from a hard drive
and is completely packaged in 1 MP4 file. |
|
| Question: | Are there any issues with integration to a NetCache CDN instead of Cisco? | |
| Answer: | Only Cisco is supported at this time. |
|
| Question: | What is the maximum bit rate supported for the VGA encode? | |
| Answer: | Mindshare: Up to 30 fps at native 800x600 capture Up to 20 fps at 1024x768 capture Up to 10 fps at 1600x1200 capture Mindshare LITE: Up to 5 fps at native 1024x768 capture |
|
| Question: | Are there any post production tools for the streams? Are there software packages by others that go beyond clipping and snipping? | |
| Answer: | None yet…but several manufactures have this in the works. |
|
| Question: | In a large deployment, can the encoders talk to a centralized origin as well as create a local backup? | |
| Answer: | Yes. |
|
| Question: | What are the player layout types and how does the user create new layouts? | |
| Answer: | The template system is also XML based so this offers several options for customizing
the file layout. |
|
| Question: | How to get the MP4 link to "launch automatically" on MAC? | |
| Answer: | In the program finder under "Envivio" there should be a small application called
"Mac URL Helper" this will add an entry to the system "Registry" that will help it
figure out what "e-rtsp" is. |
|
| Question: | How can I encode Lectures "Back-to-back" without a break to "process" the newly finished session? | |
| Answer: | After you stop the current session and hit next, if you "Uncheck Process MP4" option
and check "Save Easy Edit File" the session will be quickly "archived" for processing
later. |
|
| Question: | Can I upgrade the CD-RW drive to a DVD-RW drive? | |
| Answer: | No not at this time, they may consider if a QTY of units is ordered. |
|
| Question: | Can I order a Mindshare customized? | |
| Answer: | Ie. This CPU, this harddrive, etc. No not at this time. |
|
| Question: | I have a DV cam, can I input a Firewire source into the Mindshare? | |
| Answer: | No, the Mindshare has no Firewire input and you cannot add a Firewire card to the
product, it currently does not support it. |
|
| Question: | Can the Mindshare be controlled via a control system? | |
| Answer: | Yes, the Mindshare 4.x series includes an XML API. Documentation resides on the unit,
here is a link to a PDF version Starin made Download (407.12 KB) |
|
| Question: | Can the Mindshare be controlled via serial RS-232? | |
| Answer: | No. The Minshare product is only supports IP-based XML control. |
|
| Question: | What ports need to be open on the viewing side of an Envivio Mindshare Stream? | |
| Answer: | Client computers should have their firewall's set to allow the following traffic
(Standard streaming media ports): • Ports 554, 7070 – 7071 for both UDP and TCP • Port 3389 (TCP) |
|
| Question: | What ports of the firewall need to be open to run a Mindshare unit behind a firewall? | |
| Answer: | The Mindshare can serve a variety of protocols, depending on how it is configured to
be used. To use all available features of the Mindshare plan for the following ports
to be open to the unit from the outside: • HTTP Port 80 • Slide Content: Ports 6148-6149 UDP • Video Content: Ports 7570-7573 UDP • Ports 554, 7070 – 7071 for both UDP and TCP |
|
| Question: | What ports are required to be open to run a 4Sight server behind a firewall? | |
| Answer: | The 4Sight SE product supports HTTP tunneling to limit the required open port to 80.
By default ports 7070-8080 should be open if tunneling is not used in the
configuration. Also remember that live Mindshare streams are transferred to the
4Sight via FTP, so port 21 along with an FTP server program are required. |
